The proximity sensor Surface Pro 5 (2017) with microphone is a part placed beside the earpiece, at the top of the screen. It detects the presence of your face during a call and switches off the screen to prevent accidental touches. This module also houses the microphone that picks up your voice during calls. This part is compatible with the Surface Pro 5 (2017) model, is made by a third party and is an affordable solution to repair your device.
A fault in this component is often noticed when the screen stays on during a call, keys are triggered by your face, or the person you are speaking to can no longer hear you well. Before you start, switch off the device, disconnect the battery if your model allows it, and work on a clean surface. Use a plastic tool to avoid damaging the flex cable, and avoid static electricity by touching a metal surface before handling the components.
After fitting, reconnect the device and test the face proximity during a call, then the microphone with a voice recording. Never force the connectors and never puncture or bend the battery. If it is swollen, do not try to use it.
