Description
The iPad Air 2 (2014) diode (Ref. D40011) is a small electronic component that lets current pass in one direction only. It protects certain circuits against reverse polarity and helps stabilise the operation of some parts of the board. When it fails, a device may no longer power up properly, overheat abnormally or show intermittent faults. This part is a compatible reference made by a third party, and the title does not specify every detail of its position on the board.
Before any work, switch off the device, unplug the charger and, if possible, disconnect the battery. Work on a clean, anti-static surface with an earthing wrist strap. Identify the diode to be replaced and its fitting direction precisely using a photo of the board before desoldering the current part. Moderate heat limits the risk to neighbouring tracks.
After refitting, check for any short circuit and that the component is correctly oriented. Reconnect the power supply and test the device's operation before closing it up. If the battery is swollen, stop using it and never puncture or bend it.
Tips
- Disconnect the device and battery before any work
- Respect the fitting direction of the diode before soldering
- Use an anti-static wrist strap to protect the board
- Check for short circuits before powering back up
- Never puncture or bend a lithium battery
Fitting
