Description
The Pixel 7 fingerprint reader is the sensor that recognises your finger to unlock the device and confirm certain payments or sign-ins. It takes the form of a small ribbon cable connected to the motherboard, and it is this part that needs replacing when recognition no longer works, is slow, or fails regularly. This compatible part is made by a third party and lets you repair the sensor at a lower cost.
Before you start, switch the device off completely and disconnect the battery when the procedure requires it, to avoid any short circuit. Work on a clean, flat surface and avoid static electricity by regularly touching an earthed metal surface. Handle the ribbon cable by its edges, without bending the thin strip or forcing the very fragile connectors.
Once the fitting is finished, switch the device back on and check in the settings that the sensor is recognised. Save several fingerprints and test unlocking several times, with a dry, clean finger. If recognition remains unstable, check the connection of the ribbon cable before concluding that the part is faulty.
Tips
- Switch off the device and disconnect the battery before touching the cables
- Handle the ribbon cable by the edges, without bending it or forcing the connectors
- Avoid static electricity: touch a metal surface before you begin
- Check the sensor in the settings, then test it several times
- Register your fingerprints again after replacing the reader
Fitting
Fitting guide: work with the device switched off, disconnect the battery before touching any flex cable, keep the screws in order and test the part before closing up. A question before ordering? Write to us.
