Description
This microphone is an internal component of the iPad 5 (2017). It picks up your voice during calls, video recordings and voice commands. When it fails, the person you are speaking to hears you poorly, muffled or not at all, and voice notes become unusable. This compatible part lets you replace the faulty microphone without changing the whole tablet, which makes it an economical option for a home repair.
Before you start, switch off the iPad completely and unplug its charging cable. Work on a clean, well-lit surface, with tools suited to small screws. To avoid electrostatic discharge, touch an earthed metal surface regularly. If the battery is swollen, stop using it and do not puncture or bend it. Disconnect the battery before handling the ribbon cables, and avoid excessive heat during disassembly.
Once the microphone is fitted and the iPad closed again, switch it back on and test the recording with the Voice Memos app and a video call. If the device needs charging for these tests, let it charge fully a few times to check that the assembly is stable. Also check that the other audio functions, such as the speaker, work normally.
