Description
The microphone is the component that picks up your voice during calls, voice messages and video recordings. When it fails, the person you are speaking to hears you poorly, faintly or not at all, and voice notes become unusable. This part, compatible with the Google Pixel 2 XL, lets you replace a worn or damaged microphone without having to buy a new device.
Before you start, switch the phone off completely and disconnect the battery when the procedure requires it, to avoid any short circuit. Work on a clean surface and use a tray to store the screws. To limit the risks linked to static electricity, touch an earthed metal surface regularly and avoid handling the part on a carpet. Moderate heat is enough to loosen glued components, without ever overheating the device.
After fitting, check the microphone works with a test call, then in the voice recorder. If a battery is involved, run a few full charge cycles before intensive use. Do not puncture or bend the battery, and stop using any swollen battery.
Tips
- Switch off the phone and disconnect the battery before touching the ribbon cables
- Use moderate heat to loosen glued components
- Work on a clean surface and keep the screws in a tray
- Test the microphone with a call and a voice recording after fitting
- Never use a swollen, punctured or bent battery
