Description
This compatible microphone replaces the built-in microphone of the Surface Pro 6 (2018). It picks up your voice for video calls, audio recordings, dictation and voice assistants. When it fails, you often notice a muffled or missing voice, callers who cannot hear you, or an unusual background noise during conversations.
Before you start, switch off the tablet, unplug the charger and disconnect the battery if your skill level allows it. Work on a clean, flat surface with suitable tools so you do not damage the retaining clips. Avoid any rough handling of the ribbon cables, which are fragile, and protect yourself from static electricity by touching an earthed metal surface before handling the components.
After fitting, power the tablet back on and check the microphone with the Windows Voice Recorder app, then make a test call. If the battery was disconnected, let it recharge and carry out a few full charge cycles to stabilise operation.
Tips
- Switch off and unplug the tablet before any work
- Disconnect the battery before touching the ribbon cables
- Discharge static electricity before handling the parts
- Test the microphone with the voice recorder after fitting
- Never puncture or bend a swollen lithium battery
