This flex cable connects the volume buttons and the audio jack of the iPhone 4 to the motherboard. It allows the volume buttons to respond and lets the headphone or wired speaker socket detect a connected device. When one of these two elements stops working, the flex cable is often the cause, especially if the problem appears after a fall, repeated pressing of the buttons or frequent use of the port.
This part is a compatible version made by a third party. It does not necessarily reproduce the components of the current part exactly. Check before fitting that the part matches your iPhone 4. Prepare a clean, well-lit workspace, use anti-static tools and small screwdrivers suited to the job, and note the position of the screws. Disconnect the battery before unplugging the flex cable to avoid any short circuit.
After fitting, replace the screws, reconnect the battery, then test the volume buttons, the jack port with headphones and charging. Never force the connectors and do not bend the flex cable. If the battery is swollen, do not try to use it and do not puncture or bend it.
