Description
The compass chip is an electronic component that measures the Earth's magnetic field to determine the orientation of the device. It is used by navigation, mapping and augmented reality applications. On a iPhone 13 mini, it notably allows the direction you are heading to be displayed. When it is faulty, you often see a compass that spins endlessly, inconsistent readings or a map that no longer orients itself correctly.
This part is a compatible version, made by a third party, and not an original part. Before starting, switch the device off completely and disconnect the battery when the procedure allows it. Work on a clean, flat surface, protected from static electricity, using an anti-static wrist strap if possible. Handle the chip by its edges, without pressing on its contacts, and avoid any excessive heat during desoldering or replacement.
After fitting, switch the device back on and start a compass calibration procedure, drawing a figure eight in the air as shown on screen. Then test the orientation in a map application, outdoors and away from any metal source. If the behaviour remains abnormal, check how the part is seated before concluding there is a fault.
