Description
The charging IC is a small integrated circuit that manages the power supply to the battery when the device is connected to the mains or to a USB cable. It regulates the current and voltage sent to the battery, and helps protect it against overcharging. On a Galaxy S8, a faulty charging IC can result in a phone that no longer charges, charges very slowly, or only charges in certain cable positions.
This part is a compatible version, made by a third party. Before you start, switch the device off, discharge it as much as possible and disconnect the battery. Work on a clean surface, with an antistatic station if possible, and avoid heating the components longer than necessary. A temperature-controlled soldering station and a magnifier make working on this type of component much easier.
After reassembly, connect a reliable charger and check that charging starts and continues normally. For a reconnected battery, plan a few full charge and discharge cycles so the device can recalibrate its indicator. If the battery swells, deforms or heats up abnormally, stop immediately and do not use it any more.
