Description
The charging IC is a small integrated circuit located on the device's motherboard. It controls how power from the charging connector is passed to the battery: it regulates voltage and current to protect the battery and the electronics. This 1610A1 reference is a compatible part designed for the iPad Mini 3 (2014) model. It is intended for individuals who want to replace a faulty charging IC themselves. Typical faults it can fix include charging that won't start, very slow or intermittent charging, or a phone that only charges at certain cable angles.
Before you begin, work on a clean, well-lit surface with suitable tools and, if possible, an antistatic wrist strap to avoid electrostatic discharge damaging the components. Disconnect the battery before handling the ribbon cables and connectors. A swollen, punctured or bent lithium battery must never be used: set it aside and handle it with care. Heat the solder joints moderately so you don't damage the neighbouring tracks.
Once the fitting is complete, check that every connection is firmly seated before powering the device back on. Then connect the charger and check that the charging symbol appears. Let the battery charge and discharge fully over a few cycles so the device recalibrates its battery level correctly.
