Description
This backlight IC for Nintendo Switch is an integrated circuit that powers and regulates the display's LEDs. It converts the battery voltage into a stable voltage suited to the LEDs. When it fails, the screen may stay very dark, flicker, switch off intermittently or show a faint image while the rest of the device works normally. The TPS61163A reference is a compatible part made by a third party, and it is an affordable option for repairing your device.
Before you start, switch the device off completely and disconnect the battery. Work on a clean surface, with an anti-static mat if possible, to avoid electrostatic discharge that can damage components. Do not heat the board more than necessary and use a soldering station at a moderate temperature. Never puncture, bend or crush the lithium battery; if it is swollen, stop using it.
After replacement, check that the screen works properly before closing the device. Test the brightness at several levels and watch the display for a few minutes. If the battery was disconnected, carry out a few full charge cycles to bring it back into good condition.
Tips
- Switch off the device and disconnect the battery before any work
- Work with an anti-static mat to protect the components
- Do not heat the board more than necessary when desoldering
