The gyroscope measures the rotation and orientation of the device, which allows the screen to rotate automatically and gaming or navigation apps to respond correctly to movement. Before you start, switch the device off completely and disconnect the battery. Work on a clean, flat surface, with an anti-static wrist strap if possible, to avoid electrostatic discharge. Be careful with heat when desoldering: a moderate temperature and a short heating time are enough. Handle the chip by its edges and avoid bending the flex cables.
After fitting, check the sensor is working with an orientation test app, then check screen rotation in several positions. If the battery was disconnected, run a few full charge cycles before judging the result. If you are unsure of your skill level, remember that a poorly controlled repair can make the fault worse.
