Description
This iPhone 6 IC chip, also called an integrated circuit, is an electronic component that drives the backlight coil of the screen. It is marked with the references L4050, L4020 and L1503, which indicate the positions and versions of the chip on the board. Its role is to regulate the current sent to the LEDs that light the screen, in order to obtain stable brightness. When it is faulty, you may notice a very dark screen, a flickering light or an image visible without sufficient lighting.
Before any work, switch off the device, disconnect the battery and work on a clean, dry surface. Use an anti-static wrist strap or regularly touch a metal ground to avoid electrostatic discharges, which can damage components. Heat the chip with a hot air station at a moderate temperature, never overheating the neighbouring tracks. Check the alignment and solder joints carefully before reassembling the device.
Once the chip is fitted, reconnect the battery and test the screen at several brightness levels before closing the casing. Monitor the temperature of the device during the first uses. If the lighting remains abnormal, check the solder joints and connectors before concluding that there is another fault.
Tips
- Disconnect the battery before any work on the board
- Use an anti-static wrist strap to protect the components
- Heat the chip at a moderate temperature to avoid the tracks
- Check alignment and solder joints before reassembling the device
- Test brightness at several levels before closing
Fitting
