Description
The rear glass is the glass panel that protects the back of the phone and lets through the camera elements and wireless charging. When it is cracked or shattered, it can cut your fingers and let in dust and moisture. This part, compatible with the Mi 8, replaces the current glass without touching the rest of the phone.
Before you start, switch off the device and remove the battery if you open the phone, as the lithium must not be punctured, bent or heated. Work on a clean, flat surface with a suitable opening tool, and use an anti-static wrist strap or regularly touch an earthed metal surface to limit static electricity. Gently heat the edge with a hair dryer at a moderate temperature to loosen the glass without forcing it.
After reassembly, check that the glass sits flush, that the edges are evenly aligned and that nothing moves or creaks. Test the camera, charging and buttons. If the battery was disconnected, reconnect it before powering the phone back on, then monitor its behaviour for a few days.
