Safety
- Lithium-ion battery: do not puncture it, bend it or lever it with a metal tool. A swollen, hot or damaged battery must not be reused.
- Heat: heat in short, moderate steps; too much heat damages the screen, the battery and the seals.
- Static electricity: work on a non-metallic surface and discharge yourself before touching the ribbon cables.
- Switch the iPhone off completely and disconnect all cables before you start. If the glass is cracked, protect it with clear adhesive tape and protect your eyes and fingers from shards.
Steps

Switch off the iPhone, disconnect all cables and remove the SIM card. Set up on a clean, well-lit surface, with a container to sort the screws.

Unscrew the two small pentalobe screws on either side of the charging port. Keep them separate, as they differ from the internal screws.

Gently heat the bottom of the screen to soften the sealing adhesive. Place the suction cup near the bottom edge, pull gently to create a small gap, then slide the thin tool into it.

Run the tool along the edges to release the screen, without inserting it too deeply. Open the screen like a book and rest it on a stable support, as the ribbon cables still connect it to the phone.

Remove the metal bracket covering the battery connector and disconnect it by lifting it with a plastic tool. Then remove the brackets over the screen connectors, disconnect its ribbon cables and set the screen aside somewhere safe.

Remove any brackets or covers over the camera connector and note where each screw goes, as their lengths can vary. Carefully disconnect the camera cable by lifting it from the side of the connector.

Compare the new part with the old one and remove any protective films. Seat it flat in its housing, refit its screws without overtightening, and reconnect the cable by pressing gently and straight.

Refit the metal brackets, reconnect the battery, then the screen. Switch on the iPhone, open the camera app and check focus, zoom and switching between lenses.

Switch the phone off again, then align the screen at the top and clip it gently into place by pressing the edges, without forcing it. Refit the two bottom pentalobe screws, then check that the screen lies flat.
