Safety
- Lithium-ion battery: do not puncture it, bend it, or lever it with a metal tool. A swollen, hot or damaged battery must not be reused.
- Heat: heat in short, moderate steps; too much heat damages the screen, the battery and the seals.
- Static electricity: work on a non-metallic surface and discharge yourself before touching the ribbon cables.
- Do not peel the battery up with a metal or pointed tool: there is a real risk of puncturing it.
- Open the screen only slightly at first: fragile cables still connect it to the logic board.
Steps

Back up your data, then switch the phone off completely. Disconnect any cables and, if possible, run the battery down to a low charge level before you start.

Take out the two small screws either side of the charging connector. Keep them in your tray, noting where each one goes.

Gently warm the bottom edge to soften the adhesive seal. Place the suction cup on the screen, pull lightly and slide a thin plastic tool into the gap, without pushing it in too far.

Slide the tool along the edge to release the screen, then open it like a book, hinge side to the right, without exceeding a small angle. Prop it up so it stays stable and does not pull on the ribbon cables.

Locate the metal bracket that covers the battery connector, remove its screws, then lift it off. Next, prise the battery connector free with a plastic tool, lifting it straight up, to cut off all power.

Take off the screen connector covers, then disconnect the screen ribbon cables with a plastic tool. Set the screen aside, away from your work area.

Locate the adhesive tabs under the battery and pull them slowly, almost flat, stretching them smoothly without jerking. If they break, warm the back gently, then work with a little isopropyl alcohol and a plastic tool, never forcing or puncturing the battery.

Clean the housing with a cloth and a little isopropyl alcohol, then let it dry. Place the new battery, centred, with its adhesive strips, and press it gently into position.

Reconnect the battery connector, then refit the bracket and its screws. Reconnect the screen ribbon cables with their covers, then switch the phone on to check the display, touch response and charging before closing it up.

Switch the phone off, check that no cables are pinched, then put the screen back in place and press along the edges. Refit the two bottom screws: the original water resistance will no longer be guaranteed.
