Safety
- Lithium-ion battery: do not puncture it, bend it or pry against it with a metal tool. A swollen, hot or damaged battery must not be reused.
- Heat: heat in short, moderate bursts; excessive heat can damage the screen, the battery and the seals.
- Static electricity: work on a non-metallic surface and discharge yourself before touching the ribbon cables.
- Switch the phone off completely and disconnect all cables before you begin.
- Check the model number on the back or in the settings: the screen must be designed for your exact model.
- The glass may be cracked: protect your eyes and fingers, and apply tape over a heavily shattered screen to limit flying fragments.
- Never force the ribbon cables or connectors: they are delicate and break easily.
- Once opened, the original water resistance is no longer guaranteed.
Steps
Diagram · Device switched off, clean workspace 1Prepare your workspace
Switch off the phone, remove the SIM card and set up on a clean, well-lit, clear surface. Put on the anti-static wrist strap and prepare trays to sort the screws in order.
Diagram · Unscrew and keep the screws safe 2Remove the bottom screws
Using the pentalobe screwdriver, unscrew the two screws on either side of the charging port. Keep them separate, as they differ from the others.
Diagram · Suction cup, then pick 3Heat and lift the screen
Gently heat the edges of the screen to soften the adhesive, then place the suction cup near the bottom and pull lightly. When a small gap appears, slide in a thin pick and work around the screen without pushing the tool in too deeply.
Diagram · Open like a book 4Open the screen carefully
Open the screen like a book, without pulling it flat or moving it away, as ribbon cables still connect it to the phone. Rest it on a stable support to avoid any strain on the cables.

Locate the metal bracket covering the battery connector, unscrew it and set it aside. Using a plastic spudger, gently lift the battery connector to cut power before going any further.

Remove the covers over the screen connectors, noting their positions and screws, then disconnect each ribbon cable by lifting the connector, never by pulling on the cable. Set the old screen aside.

If your new screen does not already include the front sensor, speaker mesh or other necessary parts, move them one by one from the old screen using tweezers. Compare with the old screen so that nothing is forgotten or damaged.
Diagram · Test before closing up 8Clean and test before closing
Remove any adhesive residue from the frame, clean with a little isopropyl alcohol and check that no dust remains. Reconnect the battery and the screen ribbon cables, then briefly switch the phone on to test the display, touch response, sound and sensors before switching it off again.

Disconnect the battery again, refit the covers and screws in their original positions, then reconnect the battery. Place the screen, aligning it carefully, press gently around the edges to secure it, refit the two bottom screws and carry out a final full test.
