Safety
- Lithium-ion battery: do not puncture, bend or pry it with a metal tool. A swollen, hot or damaged battery must not be reused.
- Heat: heat in short, moderate steps; excessive heat damages the screen, battery and seals.
- Static electricity: work on a non-metallic surface and discharge yourself before touching the flex cables.
- Switch the device off completely and disconnect any cables before starting, then disconnect the battery before touching any other connectors.
- Do not use sharp metal tools near the battery or flex cables, and never force a connector or part that resists.
Steps
Diagram · Device switched off, clean workspace 1Prepare the device and workspace
Back up your data, switch off the iPhone and disconnect any cables. Set up on a clean, well-lit surface, put on the anti-static wrist strap and remove the SIM card if one is fitted.
Diagram · Heat gently 2Soften the adhesive
Heat the indicated area gently to open the device, keeping the heat source moving. The adhesive should become pliable, but the device must never become hot to the touch.
Diagram · Lift the connectors 3Open the device
Place the suction cup, pull gently to create a small gap, then slide a thin plastic tool in. Lift the adhesive bit by bit, keeping shallow, then open without forcing, as flex cables may connect the two halves.
Diagram · Disconnect the battery first 4Disconnect the battery
Locate the battery connector, remove the bracket protecting it if there is one, then lift the connector with the plastic tool. Move it aside so it cannot reconnect on its own.

Unscrew the brackets covering the connectors and the camera module, storing the screws in the order they were removed. Note the length of each screw, as they are not all identical.

Gently unplug the camera connector with the plastic tool, then release the module without twisting it. Avoid touching the lenses and follow the path of the flex cable so you do not tear anything.

Compare the new part with the old one, clean the housing and remove the protective films from the lens. Seat it flat, reconnect its connector by pressing gently, then put back the brackets and screws in the correct positions.

Reconnect the battery, bring the two halves together without sticking them and switch the device on. Open the camera app, check focus, the different lenses and the flash, then switch off completely before continuing.

Disconnect the battery again if needed to refit the bracket, then reconnect it. Remove any remaining old adhesive, apply the new adhesive, align the two halves well and press evenly. Reinsert the SIM card and run one final camera test.
