The power management IC is an electronic component on the logic board. It regulates the voltage delivered to the various circuits, and it is what allows the device to start up and charge its battery correctly. When it is damaged, the most common symptoms are a device that no longer turns on, charging that won't start, a sudden shutdown while the battery is still charged, or abnormal heating on the board. Before any work, unplug the device, remove the battery if the model allows it, and work on a clean surface, with an anti-static wrist strap if possible. Heat the area to a moderate temperature and never force the neighbouring connectors.
Once the chip is fitted, carefully check the solder joints under a magnifier before powering the device back on. First connect it to a charger under supervision and check that it starts, charges and does not overheat abnormally. If the battery is swollen, do not use it and never puncture or bend it.
