Description
The power management IC, often called a PMIC or power management chip, distributes current from the battery or charger to the various circuits of the device. This reference 2121 is intended for the Nintendo Switch model. It is offered as a compatible version, made by a third party, and presented as a cost-effective solution for a repair.
A faulty power management IC can cause a device that will no longer switch on, that shuts down suddenly, that does not charge or that overheats abnormally. Before replacing this component, check other possible causes, such as the charging port, the cable or the battery, so you do not change a part unnecessarily. Work on a clean, well-lit surface, with an anti-static workstation. Disconnect the power supply and the battery before handling any flex cables, and avoid excessive heat when desoldering.
After fitting, check the solder joints and the absence of short circuits before powering the device back on. At first startup, monitor the temperature and the charging behaviour. A lithium battery must never be punctured or bent; if it is swollen, stop using it. If you doubt your skills, give up the repair.
Tips
- Check other fault causes before changing the chip
- Work at an anti-static station, without excessive heat
- Disconnect the battery before handling any flex cables
- Check the solder joints and the absence of short circuits before switching back on
- Never puncture or bend the lithium battery; if swollen, stop using it
