Description
This IC chip, also known as an integrated circuit, is an electronic component that manages USB Power Delivery charging on iPhone 15 Plus. Its role is to communicate with the charger, negotiate the appropriate power and regulate the current sent to the battery. When it is faulty, you may notice charging that does not start, very slow charging, a device that no longer recognises the cable, or interruptions during charging. This type of fault is often fixed by replacing the chip.
Before you start, switch off the power, disconnect the battery and work on a clean, anti-static surface, with an earthed wrist strap if possible. An IC chip is sensitive to static electricity and heat: use a hot air station at a moderate temperature for a short time, then check the orientation of the component before soldering it. Carefully remove the current part and clean the pads before fitting.
After fitting, visually check the solder joints and make sure there is no short circuit, then test charging with a USB PD charger and a cable in good condition. If the battery has been handled, carry out a few full charge and discharge cycles so the device returns to stable operation. Never puncture or bend a lithium battery, and stop using a swollen battery.
