Description
The Power Boost IC chip, reference U3100, is an integrated circuit that manages the power supply of certain devices, including the iPhone 8 Plus model. It handles the distribution and regulation of current between the battery, the charger and the various components of the motherboard. When it fails, the device may no longer start or charge, switch off suddenly or show power supply anomalies, depending on the nature of the fault.
This part is a compatible version, made by a third party. It allows you to replace a faulty component at a reduced cost, but it is not original. Before any work, cut the power, disconnect the battery and work in a clean area, protected from static electricity, with an anti-static wrist strap if possible. Moderate heat is enough when desoldering; avoid overheating the board so as not to damage neighbouring components.
After fitting, check the solder joints carefully under a microscope or magnifier and make sure there is no short circuit before reconnecting the battery. For the battery, carry out a few full charging cycles so that the device can recalibrate its power management. If the battery is swollen, stop using it and do not puncture, bend or crush it.
