Description
This IC chip, reference Small Power PMX60, is an integrated circuit designed to be mounted on the circuit board of iPhone 13. It is a power management component involved in supplying and distributing current within the device. When it fails, you may notice a device that no longer starts, charging that no longer works properly, or erratic electrical behaviour. This part is a compatible version made by a third party, allowing you to replace the faulty component at a lower cost.
Before you begin, switch off the device and disconnect the battery where possible. Work on a clean surface, using an anti-static wrist strap or regularly touching a metal earth to avoid electrostatic discharge. A soldering iron at a moderate temperature, a fine tip and good ventilation are recommended to limit the heat the board is exposed to.
After fitting, check the solder joints with a magnifier for any short circuits between the pins, then power the device back on. Monitor the temperature and behaviour closely during the first uses, and stop the test if there is a smell of burning or abnormal heating.
Tips
- Disconnect the battery and switch off the power before any intervention
- Protect the board from electrostatic discharge with an anti-static wrist strap
- Check for short circuits between the pins after soldering
- Use a soldering iron at a moderate temperature to limit heat on the board
- Never puncture or bend a lithium battery and do not use a swollen battery
