Description
This IC chip, also called an integrated circuit, is the Bluetooth RF wireless communication component marked U5201 on the motherboard of iPhone 6 Plus. It handles the transmission and reception of the Bluetooth signals used by earphones, speakers or other accessories connected to the device. When it fails, Bluetooth often stops activating, no longer detects accessories or keeps disconnecting.
This part is a compatible version, made by a third party. It matches reference U5201 and is meant to replace the current component. Before any work, switch off the power and disconnect the battery. Work on a clean surface with an anti-static wrist strap, as static electricity can destroy components. A hot air station and suitable solder paste make desoldering easier, without heating the board for too long.
Once the chip is replaced, check the solder joints under a magnifier and confirm there is no short circuit before powering the device back on. Then test Bluetooth with a known accessory and observe its behaviour over several uses. If the battery is swollen, do not use it and do not puncture or bend it.
Tips
- Disconnect the battery before any work on the board
- Use anti-static protection while working
- Check the solder joints under a magnifier before powering on
- Heat moderately to avoid damaging neighbouring components
- Test Bluetooth with several accessories after fitting
