Description
This IC chip, reference U4500, is an integrated circuit that manages battery charging when the device is connected to a USB socket. It regulates the current and voltage sent to the battery in order to protect the cells and ensure stable charging. It sits in the charging module of iPhone 6S. A fault at this level can mean a phone that no longer charges, charges very slowly, or won't start up once plugged in.
Before any work, switch off the device and disconnect the battery. Work on a clean surface, with an anti-static wrist strap if possible. Note the orientation of the current part before removing it, and use a hot air station at a moderate temperature so you don't damage the neighbouring tracks.
Once the fitting is complete, check the solder joints under a microscope and make sure no short circuit remains. Reconnect the battery, then carry out a few full charge and discharge cycles before considering the repair validated. If the battery is swollen, never use it, puncture it or bend it.
Tips
- Disconnect the battery before handling the board
- Work with an anti-static wrist strap to protect the chip
- Use moderate heat so you don't damage the tracks
- Check the solder joints under a microscope before powering up again
- Run several charge cycles to validate the repair
Fitting
Fitting guide: work with the device switched off, disconnect the battery before touching any flex cable, keep the screws in order and test the part before closing up. A question before ordering? Write to us.
