Understanding the condition grades of a refurbished phone

Premium, Excellent, Very good or Fair: the grade of a refurbished phone describes its outward appearance. Here is how to read each grade and which one to choose.

The four grades in detail

The grade describes appearance only. Every essential function is checked before preparation, whatever the grade.

Condition grades table

The grade describes appearance, not how it works

The grade describes appearance only, never how the phone works. Every essential function is checked before preparation, whatever the grade.

The checks cover in particular the screen, touch, buttons, charging, network, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cameras, microphone, speakers and, depending on the model, Face ID or Touch ID.

The battery

The battery is checked before preparation and guaranteed at a minimum of 80% of its original capacity. A new battery can be offered as an option on certain refurbished models, except in Premium condition, where this option is not offered.

Which grade should you choose?

Premium: ideal if you want the cleanest possible model. Excellent: good balance between price and appearance. Very good: good balance between budget and appearance. Fair: ideal if price is your priority.

For the same model and storage, the price may vary with the grade: each model's page shows the price of every available storage and grade combination.

Frequently asked questions

What do the Premium, Excellent, Very good and Fair grades mean?

They only describe the cosmetic appearance: Premium (close to new), Excellent (micro-marks possible), Very good (light marks, no cracks) and Fair (scratches or small dents possible, no structural cracks). The essential functions are checked before preparation, whatever the grade.

Does a phone in Fair condition work less well than a Premium one?

No. The grade only describes the cosmetic appearance: the essential functions are checked before preparation for every grade.

Is the new battery option offered for every grade?

No. It can be offered on certain refurbished models, when it is available for the chosen variant, but never in Premium condition.

Do the photos show my device?
